Ski Bag Size Guide — How to Choose the Right Length
Buying a ski or snowboard travel bag and not sure what length you need? This guide walks you through how to size a ski bag properly so your gear travels safe — and so you don't end up paying oversize-baggage fees at the airport.
1. Measure Your Skis (or Board)
Stand your skis upright tip-to-tail and measure end to end. Most adult skis sit between 150cm and 195cm. Snowboards usually range from 140cm to 170cm. Add 5–10cm of headroom for tip protectors, bindings, and packing room.
2. Pick Your Bag Length
| Your Ski/Board Length | Recommended Bag Length |
|---|---|
| 140–160cm | 165cm bag (fits with room) |
| 160–175cm | 175–180cm bag |
| 175–195cm | 180cm bag with extension |
The Storage Master adjusts up to 180cm thanks to its built-in extension panel — it fits the vast majority of adult setups. The Gear Organizer is sized at 165cm and works best for shorter skis and snowboards.
3. Think About What Else You'll Pack
A pure ski bag holds just the skis or board. A gear organizer bag holds skis or board plus boots, helmet, poles, and clothing. If you're flying and want one bag instead of two, go with the gear organizer style.
4. Check Padding
Padding is the difference between landing with a tuned ski and landing with a chipped edge. SHAKA bags use thick foam padding throughout the body and reinforced ends — the parts that take the most abuse when bags are tossed around.
5. Airline Considerations
Most major airlines allow ski bags up to 62 linear inches (158cm) as a standard checked bag, but ski-specific exemptions often allow up to 200cm. Always check your airline's specific rules — see our guide on flying with a ski bag for more.
